When inspiration strikes, Story Is a State of Mind enlists amazing guest contributors and hosts special courses and other good stuff in person and online.
On the craft side of things, we’ve done everything from a science fiction course with Matthew Trafford, to a story-to-screen course with Sioux Browning, to a course on translation with Peter Levitt.
Because we’re a holistically intelligent writing school, we’ve also hosted programs that have approached writing from a place of mindfulness and the body. For example, a yoga & writing workshop co-taught by Michael Stone, as well as a horses & writing workshop co-taught by Jennifer Schramm.
We’re always on the lookout for fresh ideas, so if you’re a student with an idea for a special program that you’d like to see hosted by Story Is a State of Mind, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Otherwise, please check this page to see what is coming up.
October 2017: Writing With Horses
It’s hard to describe what it’s like to “work” with horses. (You aren’t riding them). But I can tell you this: it feels magical. The horses help you find your best self — no masks, just insight.
With their help, and the intuitive guidance of equine therapist Jennifer Schramm, writers can reconnect to the source of their creative work.
November 2017: Writing Practice Live Sessions
Once a week for four weeks, over the course of ninety minutes, I lead you in a series of writing prompts and exercises, together with other writers.
The exercises are simple, beautiful, ordinary: all writers are welcome, regardless of genre or experience.
